5 Tips for Summer Workwear

As the days start to get warmer, many tradespeople, and those of you with outdoor jobs, will be thinking about changing from your winter work clothing to something more appropriate. The sunny days mean that you’ll be swapping the big fleeces, warm gloves and waterproof jackets for workshorts and workwear tops. Perhaps you’ll also take a jumper or lightweight jacket just in case the weather changes.

Wearing the right clothes for the job creates the right impression. Turning up with the wrong clothes on is just as bad as turning up with the wrong tools. You need to ensure that your work clothing look professional all the time. Ragged old jeans or shorts and a dirty T shirt well past its best will not impress your customers or your boss. You can still look smart even if it is warm. Your safety is also of paramount importance. You will need to ensure that your clothing offers adequate protection, and is suitable for the job in hand. If you need to carry your tools around on a building site, then you will want to keep your hands free so you can climb ladders and perform the rest of your job. Wearing the wrong sort of work clothing will hinder this.

1. Comfort
Your workwear needs to be comfortable, as you will be working in it all day. Additional padding in relevant areas such as the knees can make doing your job much easier, and quicker. Some items of workwear have additional reinforcement to protect vulnerable areas. Ensure that you have plenty of freedom of movement so that your movements are not restricted, and you can perform your job effectively and efficiently.
2. The right clothes for the job
Your workwear shorts may need to be high visibility, or have tool pockets. Perhaps you need to securely carry a pencil or mobile phone or radio whilst carrying out your job as a plumber or electrician. Ensuring that your clothes fit your needs is of paramount importance.

3. Quality clothes
Your workwear tops can be a T shirt or polo shirt, and will need to be comfortable and relatively stylish. You can’t expect to create a good impression with an old out of shape T shirt. By making sure your workwear tops and workswear shorts are of good quality, you will be reassured that they won’t fade quickly, or lose their shape. You will always look smart, no matter what the job entails.

4. Accessories
As well as workwear tops and shorts, don’t forget your accessories. Gloves, a cap to protect you from the sun, knee pads, tool pouches and ID card holders may all be required.

5. Get the look
Do you look like the professional you are? No matter what you do, you are representing your company, and it is important to still retain and promote a professional image. Why not add your company logo or brand and website to your clothing. Corporate clothing is a fantastic way of promoting your company, and can really help to attract new business. Your image is as important as your tools. You might have all the skills and experience, and tools to do the job, but what do your clothes and your image say about you?

Now you know how to improve your summer work clothing and ensure your workwear tops and shorts are up to the job, why not make sure you look professional?
